Rocking chairs provide a calming respite

A rocking chair has curved runners, known as rockers, attached to the bottom of the legs. The chair’s rockers touch the floor in two points which allow you to rock back and forth by shifting your weight or pushing softly with your feet.  The main reason that rocking chairs are so comfortable is that upon sitting in the chair, the chair will automatically rock backwards until your center of gravity is met, therefore settling you in a restful position and angle.

The original rocking chair’s inventor is unknown although historians suggest that the rocking chair originated in North America in the early 18th century.
